Training and Courses: Traditional Photography

All the courses are offered on-site by Alex Leblanc, according to demand. Should a course listed below be of interest to you, please do not hesitate to contact us so we may schedule a course. Courses are offered from September to June, Monday to Thursday evenings, between 4:30 pm and 9 pm, individually (one-on-one).

Please note that at this moment, course handouts can only be provided in French.

Introduction to traditional photography (Silver print)

Duration: 4 hours (two sessions of 2 hours each).
Cost: $220 ($100 for each additional participant).

This course is designed to introduce the basic functions of traditional cameras (film cameras). You will be learning about depth of field, shutter speed, types of films and cameras available on the market. You will also learn about the rules of composition and types of shots.

Introduction to darkroom processing and printing

Duration: 3 hours (also including 4 hours of darkroom rental).
Cost: $250 ($100 for each additional participant).

This course will focus on film development as well as black and white printing. We will also be learning about the preparation of required chemical products and general maintenance of a darkroom. Other topics that will be covered are exposure time, contrasting, dodging and burning processes, and rules of composition of a picture.

This class includes all the necessary material and equipment. It provides 3 hours of training after which you can continue working by yourself in the darkroom for 4 hours so that you can put to practice what you have learned.

Non-silver processing

Price is available upon request, depending on your specific needs.

This is an advanced course that offers an in-depth look at non-digital photography as well as alternative methods in photography. We will also be looking at topics such as digital printing, Van Dyke, Cyanotype and Polaroid Transfers.
